The Capri is proud to host a night of queer films as part of the Feast Festival. We’ll begin with a collection of short films from Queer Screen, who curate the Mardi Gras Film Festival and always provide us with a diverse range of short films that entertain, move and educate us, for the first half of the night.
This will be followed by BAFTA nominated, Blue Jean. In 1988 as Thatcher’s anti-gay laws take effect, Jean (played by a charismatic Rosy McEwen) struggles to balance her work as a physical education teacher and her relationship with her girlfriend Viv (a standout performance from Kerrie Hayes). When a new student sees her at a lesbian bar, Jean risks being outed and must decide what she truly values in life.
The bar will be open before the shorts commence and during the interval to have a catch up and a good gab about the movies. There will be plenty of hot popcorn and Haigh’s Choccies behind the candy bar too.
In 2021, a florist Terri takes her young employee Jude to Dungeness in the wake of a difficult revelation. In 1991, Seb takes his friend Terri to witness a triumphant celebration of queerness, Derek Jarman’s camp and playful canonisation in his garden at Prospect Cottage.
