Sophie Hyde’s most personal film yet\, fresh from Sundance acclaim. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n17th October\, 6pm – IT’S NEVER OVER\, JEFF BUCKLEY \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn It’s Never Over\, Jeff Buckley\, documentary filmmaker Amy Berg turns the camera on his bandmates and the women who loved him and knew him best\, to tell the story of a poetic artist full of life\, with a natural born talent and an uncanny musical ear. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n17th October\, 8:30pm – IF I HAD LEGS I’D KICK YOU \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRose Byrne is astonishing as a working mother hanging on by the barest thread in this darkly comic dramedy. Therapist Linda’s 10-yearold daughter has some mysterious illness\, is being fed by tube requiring constant care. At the same time Linda’s husband is away and the house floods. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n19th October\, 4.15pm: IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDespite bans and imprisonment\, Iranian master filmmaker Jafar Panahi continues to make great humanist films. In the middle of the night a damaged car arrives at mechanic Vahid’s garage. He hears something that triggers him to believe that the driver of the car is the official who had tortured him. But as he never saw his face\, can he really be sure? \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n19th October\, 7pm – THE FOX \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA trickster fox is let loose in the henhouse of Australian culture. He phones her every evening\, and asks “Maya\, give me a title\,” then creates low-tech animations like Maya in the sea with a bottle of ketchup. Maya’s fantastic voyages will have the little ones dreaming\, and the grown-ups smiling. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n25th October\, 4pm – JIMMY BARNES: WORKING CLASS MAN \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBarnesy tells it straight. No varnish\, no mythmaking. In Jimmy Barnes: Working Class Man\, the Cold Chisel frontman traces how childhood harm became adult chaos\, then a hard-won recovery\, laying mental health on the table with humour\, frankness and zero rock star mystique. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n26th October\, 6pm – WOLFRAM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWarwick Thornton’s Wolfram unfolds in 1932 Central Australia\, marking the follow up to his acclaimed Sweet Country (AFF 2017). Aboriginal children are forced into wolfram (tungsten) mining until violence entangles them with ruthless outlaws. At the heart of the story is Pansy\, longing for her stolen children in a tightly wrought western of reckoning.

SUMMARY:An Open Day at the Capri
DESCRIPTION:Built in 1941\, the heritage-listed Capri theatre and its 100 year-old WurliTzer theatre organ are two of Adelaide’s treasures. If you’ve ever wanted to see behind the scenes\, find out how the organ works or even have a try\, this FREE EVENT is your big chance. \n\n\n\n\nBackstage and heritage tours\n\n\n\nOrgan demonstrations\n\n\n\nTrading table\n\n\n\nSALA photo exhibition\n\n\n\n\nIn the era of silent movies\, music to dramatize the story was provided by a small orchestra. But as theatre operators sought to cut costs\, orchestras were replaced by a ‘Unit Orchestra’ – a pipe organ able to produce all the music and sound effects the audience expected but played by a single person. These are the wonderful and complex machines now referred to as theatre organs. \n\n\n\nDuring 1974 a WurliTzer theatre organ\, then located in Darwin\, was purchased by the South Australian division of TOSA. It was dismantled and packed for transport only weeks before cyclone Tracy flattened that city. Once in Adelaide the components were placed in storage until a suitable home for it could be located. This was found in 1978 when\, using money loaned or donated by TOSA members\, the Capri Theatre at Goodwood was purchased. The theatre re-opened as a movie venue in December of that year showing ‘Gone with the Wind’. \n\n\n\nInstallation of the WurliTzer required extensive building modifications\, not to mention organ pipes\, air blowers and miles of wiring\, work largely completed by volunteer TOSA members. It was first played in April 1983 as part of a national TOSA convention. \n\n\n\nThe work of proud TOSA(SA) members and volunteers continues to be vital to the operation and maintenance of the theatre\, building and organ installation. \n\n\n\nOur Candy Bar will be open for you to purchase our famous Capri Choc Top\, Haighs Chocolates\, Tea\, Coffee or a Glass of wine!
