SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen: John Singer Sargent -
DESCRIPTION:John Singer Sargent is known as the greatest portrait artist of his era. What made his ‘swagger’ portraits remarkable was his power over his sitters\, what they wore and how they were presented to the audience. Through interviews with curators\, contemporary fashionistas and style influencers\, Exhibition on Screen’s film will examine how Sargent’s unique practice has influenced modern art\, culture and fashion. \n\n\n\nFilmed at the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston and the Tate Britain\, London\, the exhibition reveals Sargent’s power to express distinctive personalities\, power dynamics and gender identities during this fascinating period of cultural reinvention. Alongside 50 paintings by Sargent sit stunning items of clothing and accessories worn by his subjects\, drawing the audience into the artist’s studio. Sargent’s sitters were often wealthy\, their clothes costly\, but what happens when you turn yourself over to the hands of a great artist? The manufacture of public identity is as controversial and contested today as it was at the turn of the 20th century\, but somehow Sargent’s work transcends the social noise and captures an alluring truth with each brush stroke.

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen: Klimt & the Kiss
DESCRIPTION:The Kiss by Gustav Klimt is one of the most recognised and reproduced paintings in the world. It is perhaps the most popular poster on student dorm walls from Beijing to Boston. Painted in Vienna around 1908\, the evocative image of an unknown embracing couple has captivated viewers with its mystery\, sensuality and dazzling materials ever since it was created. But just what lies behind the appeal of the painting – and just who was the artist that created it? Delving into the details of real gold\, decorative designs\, symbolism and simmering erotica\, a close study of the painting takes us to the remarkable turn of the century Vienna when a new world was battling with the old. From the director of ‘Frida Kahlo’ and ‘Mary Cassatt – Painting the Modern Woman’ comes a powerful\, gripping and passionate new film.

Add to this a guest artist and we have a program of delightful popular music from several genres. \nThe morning commences with vocalist Heidi Rae\, presenting several musical comedy favourites\, including Oh What a Beautiful Morning from Oklahoma\, Good Morning from Singing in the Rain and It’s a Lovely Day Today fom Call Me Madam. Heidi will be accompanied by the only male on the program\, Capri favorite Barry Hall\, playing the Mighty  Wurlitzer. \nHeather Purdie then joins the performers to play several pieces on the Capri Kawai Grand Piano. Amongst Heather’s pieces will be the theme from Beauty and the Beast\, from the musical of the same name\, A Spoonful of Sugar from Mary Poppins and the theme from Dr Zhivago\, Somewhere my Love. \nGuest artist Samantha Gilberthorpe\, or as she prefers Sammy G\, then brings her cello to the Capri stage. Sammi is a fairly recent arrival in Adelaide\, leaving behind a respected career in cello music in Sydney. Since her arrival in Adelaide\, Sammy has continued to be active in her special music field\, teaching cello and performing on a regular basis. She recently performed at the FrenchFest music festival in the Clare Valley. Sammy will play a selection of popular music arranged for the Cello. \nSammy will then be joined by Capri regular organist Claire Baker to perform a duet on cello and organ of the The Swan.  Composed by Camille Saint-Saens\, The Swan is part of his The Carnival of the Animals suite. During this performance the audience will be treated to an on screen classical ballet dance from The Royal Ballet of The Dance of the Dyring Swan\, originally created by Anna Pavlova. \nClaire then remains at the organ console to play several of her favourites. Claire will be remembered for leading the fun at the regular Capri screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Wearing another hat\, Claire is responsible for maintaining the electrical components of the Capri Wurlitzer. \nCompleting the program is Margie Hay\, well know to Capri audiences for her regular pre-movie organ recitals. Again Margie will play several of her favourite pieces including the spectacular Granada. Granada was written by Mexican composer Agustin Lara in 1932. Often sung with Spanish lyrics by Lara in an operatic style\, a popular version with English lyrics was  written by Australian Dorothy Dodd. As a song Granada has become the signature tune of Jose Carreras\, and is one of the feature songs recorded by The Three Tenors.
