SUMMARY:Dirty Dancing + Hits of the 80's
DESCRIPTION:40 & FABULOUS!!! \nHear the mighty WurliTzer like never before as a group of very talented artists bash out the hits of the 80’s to get you in the mood for one of the most iconic films of the decade\, Dirty Dancing! \nThere will be some super 80s corkers\, like Fame\, Ghostbusters\, Take On Me and many more. Get ready to hit that high note…”in a day or twoooooooo!” And you haven’t had the time of your life until you’ve seen THE dirty dance performed on the Capri’s stage. \nHits of the 1980s plus “Dirty Dancing” starts at 7.00pm\, with some up-tempo hits songs from the 1980s demonstrating how more recent popular music can be performed on the WurliTzer. Three of our local organists will entertain with a disco version of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Boys Town Gang 1982\, music from the movie “Rocky” (1981)\, “Feeling” from Flashdance (1983)\, to mention a few. A live dance routine\, with the famous leaping-lifting sequence from the movie “Dirty Dancing” (M) will lead into this smash hit movie from 1987. \nIn celebration of the 40th anniversary of its inaugural concert at the Capri\, all proceeds will go towards the restoration of the theatre organ. \nThis event is part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the mighty WurliTzer theatre organ’s inaugural concert at the Capri Theatre. There is a whole weekend of events planned and you can buy a discounted ticket to all three events by contacting us directly at secretary@capri.org.au or by calling 8272 1177. \nBooking-Form-40-and-Fabulous \nCLAIRE BAKER\nClaire has performed in many concerts at the Capri\, with the Band of the South Australia Police\, Rosanne Hosking and others\, and has been the featured organist for regular big shows like New Years Eve and Rocky Horror for over 15 years.\nShe often plays at the Capri for weddings and other special hires\, in addition to performing regularly for private functions on the Grand Organ in the Adelaide Town Hall. \nClaire continues to excite and entertain audiences by arranging music across a very wide range of genres. \nHer version of the wonderful music from the era of “Dirty Dancing”\, specifically arranged for the WurliTzer\, is something not to be missed. \nJENNIE BURTON\nJennie has performed at the Capri on many occasions\, both on Piano and Organ. SUMMARY:Charade + the music of Johnny Mercer live on stage
DESCRIPTION:Johnny Mercer was best known as a Tin Pan Alley lyricist\, who wrote many successful hits including the title track from Charade\, for which he won an Oscar. Some of his other hits include ‘THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC\,’ ‘DAY IN DAY OUT\,’ ‘MOON RIVER\,’ ‘HIT THE ROAD TO DREAMLAND’ and ‘ONE FOR MY BABY.’ \nReturning to Adelaide\, multiple five star cabaret performer\, Brigitte Baden-Rennie\, joins internationally renowned Kym Purling and his trio live on stage to perform some of his greatest hits. Then we’ll screen the Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant classic\, Charade\, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary. \nCharade is a classic comedic thriller where a trio of crooks relentlessly pursue a young American\, played by Audrey Hepburn in gorgeous Givenchy\, through Paris in an attempt to recover the fortune her dead husband stole from them. The only person she can trust is Cary Grant’s suave\, mysterious stranger. SUMMARY:EOS - Mary Cassatt: Painting the Modern Woman
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition on Screen presents Mary Cassatt: Painting the Modern Woman \nMary Cassatt made a career painting the lives of the women around her. Her radical images showed them as intellectual\, feminine and real\, which was a major shift in the way women appeared in art. \nPresenting her astonishing prints\, pastels\, and paintings\, this film introduces us to the often-overlooked Impressionist whose own career was as full of contradiction as the women she painted. \nShe printed\, sketched\, and painted dozens of images of mothers and children yet she never married or had children herself. She was a classically trained artist but chose to join a group of Parisian radicals – the Impressionists – a movement that transformed the language of art. \nThe world’s most eminent Cassatt curators and scholars help tell this riveting tale of great social and cultural change; a time when women were fighting for their rights and the language of art was completely re-written. Mary Cassatt and her modern women were at the heart of it all. \nDespite being a prolific painter of women\, Cassatt detested being described as a ‘woman painter’.\nCassatt was born in America and became one of America’s most well-known artists.

SUMMARY:Doug Stanhope - Live on Stage
DESCRIPTION:Doug Stanhope is an American stand-up comedian\, author\, political activist and podcast host. His stand-up material favors caustic and often obscene observations of life in the style of Bill Hicks and Bill Burr\, which he delivers while consuming alcohol. \n“He blazed with the honesty\, outrage and lucidity that made his name… Much of what’s wrong with the world melts away in Stanhope’s flame… comedy with brains and guts and a heart”\, “the charm\, don’t-give-a-damn swagger and aggressive intelligence that make for important\, exciting comedy.”\n– The Guardian\, London \n“There’s a kind of Olympic torch of extreme American comedy\, which passed from Lenny Bruce\, through Richard Pryor and Sam Kinison… to the late Bill Hicks. Stanhope is the latest\, and equally brilliant\, bearer.”\n– Independent on Sunday \n“Stanhope’s stage show is a momentous thing to behold. Don’t expect typical Bush-bashing or paper-thin material – he takes no prisoners in his ruthless baiting of everything that gets under his skin.” Glasgow Evening Times “On his way to self-immolation\, Stanhope works through an hour of brilliant material which slaughters just about every sacred cow on the farm.”\n– The Scotsman\, Edinburgh

SUMMARY:Feast Festival - Lonesome (SA Premiere)
DESCRIPTION:The Capri is proud to host a night of queer films as part of the Feast Festival’s 25th anniversary celebrations. \nWe’ll begin the night with a collection of short films curated by Queer Screen. This will include a short film on the history of the Feast Festival. See the list at the bottom of this page. \nThis will be followed by the SA premiere of Lonesome\, Craig Boreham’s follow up to Teenage Kicks (SFF 2016)\, which explores desire\, sexuality and isolation as two very different young men form an unlikely and surprising connection. \nAfter being embroiled in a small-town scandal\, Casey (Josh Lavery) heads to Sydney where he connects with Tib (Daniel Gabriel) via an app and ends up in an intense sexual encounter. Tib makes it clear that his casual hook-ups aren’t meant to linger but there is more-than-usual chemistry bubbling here. Soon\, Casey is staying on Tib’s couch and the pair take on odd jobs around the city to make some cash. But while they draw closer\, each revealing traumatic incidents from their lives\, they struggle to concretise their connection. Sexually explicit and romantic\, gritty and tender\, the visually splendid Lonesome is a moving story of two scarred individuals overcoming their pasts to become open to the idea of love. \n(R18+) Lonesome contains discussions of suicide and depictions of BDSM that may be confronting. \n \nShorts from Queer Screen Australia \n\n\n\nFilm\nSynopsis\nImages\nCountry\nDirector\nRating\n\n\nDragged Up\nA shy teenage misfit uses drag to find the confidence she needs to show her family who she truly is.\n \nUK\nLaura Jayne Tunbridge\nUnclassified 18+\n\n\nFlex\nCharles explores the gray areas of his own sexuality after going through an unexpected breakup.\n\nUSA\nMatt Porter\nUnclassified 18+\n\n\nBetween Us\nKei longs for a “normal” life in rural Japan.
