SUMMARY:National Theatre Live: All My Sons
DESCRIPTION:Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths) feature in a five-star\, triumphantly acclaimed new production of Arthur Miller’s classic play\, from visionary director Ivo Van Hove (A View from the Bridge).   One family\, the heart of the American dream. When wartime delivers profits for Joe\, it comes at a price when his partner is charged with criminal manufacturing deals\, and his eldest son goes missing in action. Will peacetime bring peace of mind\, or will he be confronted by the consequence of his actions?   Filmed live from the West End\, Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You)\, Tom Glynn-Carney (House of the Dragon)\, and Hayley Squires (I\, Daniel Blake) also feature in this disturbingly prescient play.  \n\n\n\nThis is a special event screening\, so we’ve included a glass of bubbles in your ticket price AND the mighty WurliTzer theatre organ will play the session in. There will be a non-alcoholic bubbles option available. \n\n\n\nThere is another screening on Friday the 22nd of May at 7pm.

SUMMARY:Love Soul Deep + The Blues Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to shake a tail feather at the Capri. \n\n\n\nBefore the suits\, the sunglasses and the squad car chaos hit the big screen\, Love Soul Deep – a powerhouse 9-piece band – will bring the rhythm and blues to life on stage with a live set inspired by The Blues Brothers. \n\n\n\nExpect big brass\, driving rhythms and the unforgettable hits made famous by John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood Blues. Think “Soul Man\,” “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love\,” and “Shake a Tail Feather” — performed the way they’re meant to be heard: loud\, live and with plenty of attitude. \n\n\n\nThen settle in for the film that turned a sketch from Saturday Night Live into a full-throttle musical comedy classic — complete with legendary cameos from Aretha Franklin\, Ray Charles and James Brown. \n\n\n\nIt’s a mission from God… and you’re invited. \n\n\n\nOne stage. One screen. All the soul. \n\n\n\nDon a suit and tie and go in the running to win a prize!! \n\n\n\nDancing in the aisles is strongly advised!! \n\n\n\n7:00PM – LOVE SOUL DEEP8:00PM – INTERVAL8:30PM – BLUES BROTHERS

SUMMARY:Marilyn Monroe's 100th Birthday - double feature
DESCRIPTION:Diamonds may be forever… but icons are once in a century. \n\n\n\nJoin us as we celebrate the 100th birthday of Hollywood’s ultimate blonde bombshell\, Marilyn Monroe\, with a dazzling double feature on the big screen. \n\n\n\nFirst\, it’s the sparkling\, show-stopping glamour of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes\, where Monroe’s Lorelei Lee teaches us all that diamonds are a girl’s best friend (and that pink satin never goes out of style). Then we turn up the heat with The Seven Year Itch\, featuring that subway-grate scene — the white dress\, the breeze\, the moment that defined movie history. \n\n\n\nFrom her comic timing to her vulnerability\, from Technicolor musical numbers to Manhattan mischief\, Marilyn remains one of cinema’s most enduring stars. A century on\, she still glows on the big screen exactly as she was meant to. \n\n\n\nSo slip into something fabulous\, gather your best girlfriends (or your best leading man)\, and celebrate 100 years of sparkle\, sass and silver-screen magic. \n\n\n\nBecause some like it hot… but we prefer it on the Capri screen. \n\n\n\n1:45pm – Organ2:00pm – Gentlemen Prefer Blondes3:30pm – Interval3:50pm – 7 Year Itch5:35pm – Finish

SUMMARY:Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were Rabbit - Kid's Nostalgia Event
DESCRIPTION:Dust off your bunny ears and round up the family for an afternoon of old-school fun at the Capri! \n\n\n\nWe’re kicking things off with a classic cartoon to warm up those giggles\, before stepping back in time for a short silent comedy brought gloriously to life by John Slater on the mighty WurliTzer theatre organ. There’s nothing quite like the sound of pipes\, pedals and playful melodies filling the Art Deco auditorium — just as it did in cinema’s golden age. \n\n\n\nThen it’s time for cheese\, chaos and colossal carrots as we screen the beloved claymation adventure Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. When a mysterious beast starts terrorising Tottington’s vegetable gardens\, eccentric inventor Wallace and his long-suffering (and much smarter) dog Gromit must hop into action. Expect cracking contraptions\, British wit\, and more Wensleydale references than you can shake a celery stick at. \n\n\n\nIt’s a celebration of screen nostalgia for kids and grown-ups alike — cartoons\, silent comedy\, live organ music and a modern animated classic\, all under one beautifully restored 1920s roof. \n\n\n\nBig laughs. Big carrots. Big organ sound. \n\n\n\nBook early — this one’s bound to multiply! 🐰🎬

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen: Frida Kahlo (Encore)
DESCRIPTION:This highly engaging film takes us on a journey through the life of one of the most prevalent female icons: Frida Kahlo. She was a prolific self-portraitist\, using the canvas as a mirror through all stages of her turbulent and\, at times\, tragic life. Guided with interview\, commentary and Frida’s own words\, EXHIBITION ON SCREEN uncovers that this\, however\, was not a life defined by tragedy. \n\n\n\nFeaturing key exhibitions and interviews with world-renowned Kahlo curators\, EXHIBITION ON SCREEN explores the extraordinary symbolism and themes in these personal canvases to seek a deeper understanding of the real Frida Kahlo. \n\n\n\nUsing cinema to take an up-close and intimate look at her works we examine how great an artist she can be considered. Displaying a treasure trove of colour and a feast of vibrancy on screen\, this personal and intimate film offers privileged access to her works and highlights the source of her feverish creativity\, her resilience and her unmatched lust for life\, men\, women\, politics and her cultural heritage. \n\n\n\nWe might think we already know Frida Kahlo – the image of floral crowns\, big brows and folk style clothing have made her a muse to generations – but what lies beneath the surface of this intensely passionate woman?

Sequins optional. Enthusiasm mandatory. \n\n\n\nBecause legends never die — and on this night\, Freddie’s spirit will be very much alive at the Capri.

SUMMARY:Exhibition on Screen: James McNeill Whistler
DESCRIPTION:In an era of great change and great beauty emerged the character of James McNeill Whistler. Considered by some to be one of the great innovators of 19th century art\, he was a contemporary of the Impressionists\, much admired by Van Gogh and Manet. Boldly experimental and famously witty\, Whistler disrupted the strict conventions of Victorian society in pursuit of a new cult of beauty\, creating “art for art’s sake” and earning himself a place in the history of great art. He found a parallel between painting and music\, and entitled many of his paintings “arrangements”\, “harmonies” and “nocturnes”\, emphasizing the importance of tonal harmony in his work. \n\n\n\nHis most famous painting\, Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1 (1871)\, commonly known as Whistler’s Mother\, is a revered and often parodied portrait of motherhood. It is arguably one of the most famous paintings in history and this film will unveil the artist behind the art. \n\n\n\nTate Britain is now holding the first major retrospective of Whistler in three decades. This blockbuster exhibition promises to reawaken the world to just how important Whistler is to art history\, uniting world-famous masterpieces with rarely seen works. Exhibition on Screen will bring these stunning works and the incredible story behind them to cinemas around the world while the exhibition is still running\, bringing this truly global artist to a global audience. This will be an unmissable chance to get to know this visually spectacular artist and the influence he has had on those who followed.

SUMMARY:Nosferatu - Capri's 85th
DESCRIPTION:As the centrepiece of the Capri’s 85th Birthday Weekend celebrations\, experience one of the most influential horror films ever made as it was originally intended to be seen. \n\n\n\nReleased in 1922\, F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror is widely regarded as the first great vampire movie and one of the most important films in cinema history. Created without permission from Bram Stoker’s estate\, the production narrowly escaped destruction following a copyright lawsuit\, with only a handful of prints surviving. Thankfully\, this haunting masterpiece lives on and continues to cast its spell over audiences more than a century later. \n\n\n\nFor this special screening\, the Capri’s mighty WurliTzer theatre organ will return to its original purpose: providing a live musical soundtrack to a silent motion picture. Before recorded soundtracks became commonplace\, theatre organs were known as “one-person orchestras”\, creating everything from sweeping romance to blood-curdling suspense in real time. \n\n\n\nTo bring Nosferatu to life\, we’re flying acclaimed Brisbane-based theatre organist and silent film accompanist David Bailey to Adelaide for one night only. David is regarded as one of Australia’s leading silent film accompanists\, having performed extensively at theatres\, festivals and concert venues around the country. His musical style draws heavily on the popular music of the early twentieth century\, making him the perfect guide through the eerie world of Count Orlok. \n\n\n\nCapri audiences may remember David’s unforgettable accompaniment to The Phantom of the Opera last year\, which earned him a standing ovation from a delighted audience. His ability to synchronise every musical phrase with the action on screen transforms a silent film screening into a truly immersive live performance. \n\n\n\nDark\, atmospheric\, suspenseful and surprisingly beautiful\, Nosferatu remains one of cinema’s greatest achievements. Combined with the power of the Capri’s WurliTzer and the artistry of David Bailey\, this promises to be a once-in-a-generation way to experience a genuine silent film classic. \n\n\n\nJoin us for the main event of our 85th Birthday Weekend celebrations and discover why\, after more than 100 years\, Nosferatu still has audiences looking nervously over their shoulders.

SUMMARY:Maltese Falcon + Citizen Kane - Capri's 85th
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Capri Theatre’s 85th Birthday Celebrations\, step back to 1941 – the very year our beloved theatre first opened its doors – for a remarkable double feature showcasing two of the most influential films ever made: The Maltese Falcon and Citizen Kane. \n\n\n\nReleased just months apart in 1941\, these cinematic landmarks helped redefine what movies could be. The Maltese Falcon marked the directorial debut of legendary filmmaker John Huston and is widely regarded as one of the earliest and greatest film noirs ever made. The film transformed Humphrey Bogart from a supporting player into a bona fide Hollywood star\, introducing audiences to the hard-boiled private detective Sam Spade and delivering one of cinema’s most famous final lines: “The stuff that dreams are made of.” \n\n\n\nMeanwhile\, Citizen Kane was the astonishing first feature film by Orson Welles\, who was just 25 years old when he co-wrote\, directed\, produced and starred in the film. Packed with groundbreaking visual techniques and storytelling innovations\, it remains a regular fixture at the top of critics’ lists of the greatest films ever made. Many of its cast members came from Welles’ Mercury Theatre company\, making the film as much a theatrical ensemble piece as a Hollywood production. \n\n\n\nThe connections between these two classics run deeper than their shared release year. Both were extraordinary directorial debuts from young filmmakers who would go on to become giants of American cinema. Both challenged Hollywood conventions\, pushed storytelling into new territory\, and helped shape the future of filmmaking for generations to come. \n\n\n\nTo make the evening even more special\, the Capri’s mighty WurliTzer theatre organ will play the audience into the session\, just as theatre organs did during cinema’s golden age. Following The Maltese Falcon\, enjoy a 20-minute interval featuring another live WurliTzer performance before settling back for Orson Welles’ masterpiece\, Citizen Kane. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a night of mystery\, intrigue\, innovation and nostalgia as we celebrate 85 years of the Capri with two films that were born in the same year as the theatre itself.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a very special family screening of Disney’s beloved classic Dumbo as part of the Capri Theatre’s 85th Birthday Celebrations! \n\n\n\nReleased in 1941 – the very same year the Capri first opened its doors – Dumbo has been delighting generations of children and families for more than eight decades with its timeless story of courage\, friendship and discovering that the things that make us different can also make us extraordinary. \n\n\n\nBefore the movie\, experience one of the Capri’s most treasured traditions as the mighty WurliTzer theatre organ rises from beneath the stage to play the session in\, just as it would have done for audiences in the cinema’s early years. \n\n\n\nOriginally created by Walt Disney during animation’s golden age\, Dumbo remains one of the studio’s most celebrated films. At just 64 minutes\, it is one of Disney’s shortest animated features\, yet it won an Academy Award for its musical score and gave the world the unforgettable song Baby Mine. In 2017\, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in recognition of its cultural and historical significance. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re introducing your children to Dumbo for the very first time or reliving a cherished childhood favourite\, this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate two icons born in 1941 – a little flying elephant and Adelaide’s most magical cinema. \n\n\n\nCome and help us celebrate 85 years of movie-going memories at the Capri Theatre!
